About Me

“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” — Cynthia Occelli

Hello, my name is Yesenia Montaño, and I am a first-generation Oaxacan and bilingual licensed marriage and family therapist. I work with BIPOC individuals and families who are seeking to better understand and care for their mental health. As a Latinx therapist, I’m deeply passionate about providing a safe and culturally sensitive space where my clients can feel seen and supported.

My approach to therapy is holistic and client-centered, focusing on the unique needs, strengths, and stories each person brings. I’m here to help you navigate life’s challenges, offering guidance and tools to manage things like anxiety, depression, stress, or trauma. Using techniques like Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), I aim to help clients identify and change thought patterns that impact how they feel and act, empowering them to lead more fulfilling lives.

My path to becoming a therapist was deeply personal. Growing up in a multicultural environment, I developed a natural curiosity about human behavior and relationships. This curiosity, combined with my empathetic nature, led me to pursue a B.A. and M.A. in Psychology with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of mental health challenges, and I’ve sought specialized training in areas like ICBT, Seeking Safety, and counseling Spanish-speaking clients. These experiences have not only enhanced my skills but have also shaped my commitment to creating a compassionate and inclusive therapeutic space.

At the heart of my work is a deep respect for each person’s unique cultural and personal experiences. I believe that therapy should be a place where you feel understood, valued, and empowered to grow. Whether you’re looking for support with a specific issue or just want a safe space to explore your feelings, I’m here to help. I look forward to learning more about you and how we can work together to support your needs.
